The Market at 42 was established in 2017 by Carol Ozinga through her love of interior design and an artistic gift for repurposing furniture and other unique household items.

Carol strives to help customers create unique and warm living environments through upcycling, repurposing, and recreating home decor and furniture.

Some of the best moments at The Market at 42 are when customers’ faces light up with delight after they find exactly what they were searching for, the perfect gift, or something totally unexpected that brings them joy.

Carol Ozinga on finding her passion in interior and home decor design.

Have you ever had a passion or talent for something and it had to cook awhile for you had the courage to develop it?

Well, I think my mine has developed over time. My love for interior decorating, creating home decor and re-purposing furniture had to cook a while. It simmered through life’s ups and downs, through hugs and tears with kids and grandkids, and then soon after Ken retired, one day my passion for creating boiled over and transformed into my business; The Market at 42.

I think the simmering was a good thing, it is where I gained the experience, increased determination, and encouragement from my family that resulted in my perfect recipe.

Thanks to my husband that has always been my biggest cheerleader, a son and a daughter that will do almost anything for their Mama and grandkids that think their Nana can do almost anything I had what I needed to lift off my passion into a business.

I have always had a knack for interior design creating home decor. I am a maker and a doer. I have been painting, sewing curtians, and arranging rooms for friends and loved ones for as long as I can remember. I truly enjoy taking a room and transforming it. I also enjoy taking an item I find at a yard sale and making it pretty again. In this discovery phase (before I started my business) I also learned about upcycling items. This is when I take something someone typically no longer has a use for or find things in antique stores and transform them into something useful and beautiful.

Carol’s favorite things consist of front porch swinging and spending quality time with family.

After painting walls and other items for a number of years I thought I might try my hand at painting a few pieces of furniture. These pieces of repurposed furniture or ‘gussied up treasures’ turned into projects for family and friends and that is when I was encouraged to paint for resale. While I truly love all home decor styles, my favorite home decor styles are the modern farmhouse style, shabby chic, and anything with a nostalgic feel.

I hope you enjoy looking around my website as much as I enjoyed creating these items. I look forward to when you get a chance to venture out to The Market at 42 so I can get to know you in person. See ya soon!

With Love and Hospitality,

Carol
